Our Story

North Tyneside Swimming Club is an independent competitive club based at the Lakeside Centre, Killingworth. We also have a session at Hadrian Centre, Wallsend. We are affiliated to Swim England and have been SwimMark (formerly Swim 21) accredited since 2006. We have swimmers aged from approximately 7 through to 18 who train and compete regularly in a range of competitions and championship events within the club, locally and throughout the region. Within this, we have a development section aimed at teaching swimming technique and developing swimmers to move into the competitive squads.

The Beginnings

North Tyneside Swimming Club has actually been in existence for over twenty years; originally as Killingworth Sharks and since the mid 1990s as North Tyneside SC. Our Club Logo of a shark fin with water splashing over pays homage to our roots in Killingworth Sharks.

In 2006 the club became the first swimming club based in North Tyneside to achieve Swim 21 (now SwimMark) accreditation and we work each year to retain this recognition. SwimMark Accreditation is a 'Quality mark'. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members.

We are a competitive swimming club and our swimming members represent the club in a variety of competitions throughout the North East and we have a growing number of novice swimmers, just starting out on the competitive trail. As a club, our aim is to train all our swimmers to achieve their potential, whatever this may be.

Club Safety and Emergency Arrangements

As customers, the club has adopted the emergency proceduress of The Lakeside Centre and the Hadrian Leisure Centre for all training sessions. In the event of emergency all members must follow the advice of pool staff and exit the pool in an orderly manner. Swimmers will be directed out of the centre by staff on the poolside and emergency blankets provided.

During training sessions, there are qualified life guards on duty. These are provided by the Centres and will take action in the event of an emergency or accident.

For events held at other venues the coaching staff will ensure they are aware of any emergency procedures and take action to ensure swimmers follow these. A member of the coaching team / team manager will carry a mobile phone to enable contact in an emergency situation.
